Tips for using Pocket Streets
- You can find or tap a place on the map, and then save that place as a Pushpin.

- If you can't find a street address, try entering the street name without the street number.
- If you have another set of Pushpins you want to view, you can rename the existing
Pushpin (.psp) file. Then, rename the .psp file for the new Pushpin set to match
the name of the map (.mps) file.
- You can use the following keyboard shortcuts:

Export and copy a map from your PC
To export a map from your PC
Using Microsoft MapPoint, Microsoft Streets & Trips, or Microsoft
AutoRoute on your PC, you can export maps to use
on your device.
- Use the Select tool to select the area of the map you want to
export.
- On the File menu, click Export Map for Pocket Streets.
- Click OK.
- Open the folder where you want to save the map, and then type a file name for the map.
- Click Save.
A map (.mps) file and a Pushpin (.psp) file that includes all
visible Pushpins in the selected area of the map are created for your device.
To copy a map from your PC
- Connect your device to your PC.
- Double-click the Microsoft Windows CE Services or ActiveSync icon on your PC.
- In Windows CE Services or ActiveSync, click Explore. Windows Explorer opens showing the
Mobile Device folder for your device.
- Use Windows Explorer to locate any map (.mps) or Pushpin (.psp) files that
you exported for use with Pocket Streets.
- Drag these files to a folder in the Mobile Device window for your connected device.
This copies the map to your device for use with Pocket Streets.
Notes
- If the map you exported contained Pushpins, there will
be a corresponding Pushpin (.psp) file. Both the map and Pushpin files must be
copied to the same folder on your device.
- If you are copying files to a palm-sized device, you must copy the files to My Documents.
- If you are copying files to a compact flash card, you must first create a My Documents folder on the
compact flash card, and then copy the files to that folder.
View a map
- Tap File, and then tap the name of the map you want to see.
- or -
- If you don't see the name, tap File > Open Map.
- If necessary, select the folder where you've stored the map file.
- Tap the name of the map file you want to use.
- Tap OK.
Show a street or place name
- Tap any street or place on the map to see its name label. Tap the label to close
it.
This icon represents multiple points of interest
located within the same area on the map.
(Tap the icon to display a list of the points of interest there.)
Copy a Pocket Streets map to another program
- Tap Tools > Copy Map.
- Tap the Start button, and open the program you want to use (such as Pocket Word or Note Taker).
- Paste the map in your document. (CTRL+V will paste into most application documents.)
Note If your map doesn't paste successfully to another program,
you may be out of program memory. Check your system Help for information about how to free system resources.
Zoom and move the map

Zoom in on a specific area
- Drag a box around the area where you want to zoom in.
- Lift your stylus to zoom in on the area you selected.
Zoom out to view the entire map
Find a place by name
- Tap
.
- Enter the name of the place you want, and tap OK. Pocket Streets shows a list of close matches for the name you
entered.
- Choose a place from the list, and tap OK.
Find a place by address or street name
- Tap
.
- Enter the street name or street address (number and street name) you want to
find. Do not type the city or postal code. If you are using a Great Britain map, type only the street name without a street number.
- Tap OK.
Pocket Streets shows a list of close matches for the address or street name you typed.
- Choose an address or street name from the list, and tap OK.
Notes
- If you cannot find a street address, enter the street name without a street number.
- To cancel, clear the search box, and tap OK.
Show certain points of interest
For maps that contain points of interest:
- Tap View > Points Of Interest.
- Select the check box next to each category you're interested in.
- To see icons only (without labels), select the Display icons only check box.
- Tap OK.
Tip For a street-level view of points of interest, zoom in.
Label one point of interest within a cluster
- Tap
to list points of interest.
- In the list, tap the place you want to label.
- Tap OK.
Show more or less detail
- Tap View > Map Styles.
- Tap Full Street Detail or Less Street Detail.
- Tap OK.
Note Using Full Street Detail may cause the map
to draw slowly when you're viewing dense cities at high altitudes.
Show or hide points of interest
- Tap View > Display Points Of Interest. Tap it again to hide points of interest.
Show or hide Pushpins
- Tap View > Display Pushpins. Tap it again to hide Pushpins.
Note This command appears dimmed and is unavailable
if there are no Pushpins associated with your map.
Create a Pushpin
- Tap
.
- Tap the location on the map where you want to place the Pushpin.
- Enter a name for your Pushpin.
- If you'd like to change the Pushpin symbol, tap Choose Symbol, and then tap the symbol you want to use.
- Tap OK.
Note Pushpins are saved when you close Pocket Streets,
close the map, or open another map.
Convert a label to a Pushpin
- Tap or find a location on the map to display its label.
- Tap
.
- Tap the label displayed on the map.
- In the Properties box, enter a name and select preferences for the Pushpin. Tap here to read how.
- Tap OK to save and close the Pushpin note.
Open or close a Pushpin balloon
- To open a Pushpin balloon, tap the Pushpin symbol on the map.
- To close a Pushpin balloon, tap the Close button in the upper-right corner
of the balloon.
Change the Pushpin note, name, or symbol
- Tap Tools > Pushpins.
- Tap the name of the Pushpin you want to change, and tap Properties.
- Change the name or text of the note as needed.
- If you want to change the symbol, tap Choose Symbol, select the
new symbol you want to use, and then tap OK.
- Tap OK.
Tip You can double-tap a Pushpin to open the Properties box.
Hide a Pushpin
- Tap Tools > Pushpins.
- Clear the check box next to each Pushpin you want to hide.
Select the check box again to show the Pushpin.
Tip To hide all Pushpins, tap View >
Display Pushpins to clear the check box.
Delete a Pushpin
- Tap Tools > Pushpins.
- Tap the name of the Pushpin you want to delete.
- Tap Delete.
- Tap Yes.
- Tap OK.
